Signing On
1. Which service
plan is offered as part of the 30-day trial?
You can sign up for any of the service plans and get the first 30 days free.
Currently there are 3 service plans offering different amounts of storage space
(Plan details). It's
important to choose the plan you will want to keep in the long term, because the
small EZBackup program that you download is the same program you will use after
the Trial Period. You won't have to re-install and re-register.

2. Will I be billed

Requirements to Use EZBackup
3. What do I need to use
EZBackup?
EZBackup works with PC computers only and is compatible with Windows 95,
98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP. EZBackup is not Mac-compatible. In addition,
high-speed Internet access is recommended for "My Whole PC" or "All My Data"
plans.

4. Will EZBackup work with my company's
firewall?
EZBackup works with a variety of firewalls
(packet-filtering, SOCKS-compliant, mapped proxy). The important feature of
EZBackup is that the connection is initiated from within the firewall, from your
computer. Generally, firewalls protect people from traffic coming into your
network from the outside. If EZBackup encounters problems during
installation, try disabling your firewall just for this phase. Once you're
backing up, you can enable the firewall. In some circumstances, you might need to get
some information or settings from your network administrator.

5. I have online backup for my Quickbooks (or
other financial software). Can I use EZBackup?
If it's an online backup service, there may be
compatibility issues. This is possible for financial software from Intuit
(Quicken, Quickbooks) and Peachtree. Please call 1-800-306-1722 to confirm
compatibility.

6. Is EZBackup HIPPA-compliant?
EZBackup can serve as part of a company's efforts to meet HIPPA's
guidelines for securing medical information in the health industry. EZBackup
provides three important security features: files are backed up, they're stored offsite,
and the data is encrypted.

7. What kinds of files
can I backup?
You can backup any files, limited only by the amount of storage provided by your
EZBackup Plan. If you choose the largest plan, "My Whole PC", EZBackup selects
the files automatically for you. However, it does not automatically select MP3
and other audio files. You may still backup these files by selecting them
manually.

8. Does EZBackup backup email and
email attachments?
If your email storage files (e.g., pst files for
Outlook) are being backed up, then the attachments are also being backed up. If
the size of these files is large, then the EZBackup Plan that you subscribe to
must be able to accommodate them. If not, you can upgrade your Plan. Contact
Customer Service for more details about
upgrading.

Using EZBackup
9. How do I backup?
When you sign up, you'll receive an email with instructions for downloading and
installing EZBackup. It's an easy process. Once you've installed the small
program, you can start your initial backup at any time. After that point, you
can set an automatic backup schedule or start a backup any time. EZBackup works
in the background, so you can continue working. You can start a backup anytime
by clicking on "Start Backup" in the EZBackup program.

Where is EZBackup on my computer?
EZBackup starts automatically on the schedule you set at the outset, so you may
find yourself wondering, where is it? Or you may want to start a backup after
editing an important file. Or you may want to check on a past backup. To open
EZBackup, go to Start / Program Files / EZM or click on the EZBackup icon in the
small tray of icons in the lower righthand corner of your screen.

11. How often can I backup?
You decide how often to backup your data. The
EZBackup program lets you select the days and times for your backup. For example, you could select to backup every Wednesday between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. More likely, you would choose to backup every day.

12. How much data can I backup?
That depends on your backup plan. "My Essential Data" lets you backup
200MB, "All My Data" extends backup to 4GB, and "My System" protects up to 10GB of data.*
Back to Top
13. How long will my first backup take?
Your first backup will depend on your Internet connection speed and the total
size of the files. For example, an initial backup of 100MB
will take about 15-20 minutes if connected to the Internet via a 56K modem.
EZBackup works best with high-speed Internet connections, especially if you're
backing up a large number of files. If
you're backing up to 10 Gb the first time, it could take as much as 50 hours
with a slower connection. Please note that this is still feasible: EZBackup runs
in the background (leave your computer on overnight or shut down and resume the
next day). Successive backups are much faster because files are compressed
(and encrypted) and only incremental changes are backed up. Customers tell us
subsequent backups range from as little as 4-6 minutes to 15 minutes daily.

14. If my backup is interrupted, what do I
do?
EZBackup will simply resume the backup process the next time you're connected to
the Internet. If your initial backup is interrupted, which can sometimes take a
longer period of time, EZBackup will pick up where it left off.

Retrieving and Restoring Files
15. How do I retrieve a file that has been
backed up?
-
Open the EZBackup software agent (click on the icon in the icon tray - lower
right-hand corner of the screen)
-
Click on the Retrieve View tab
-
Click on the Retrieve Options button (bottom of the page)
-
Choose the files you wish to retrieve, and the time frame desired
-
Click the box next to the file you want. Click Retrieve Now.
-
You will be prompted to rename the file so it does not have the same name as
another file on your PC; then the file will be retrieved.
It's a good idea to try a "Retrieval Fire Drill", to retrieve a file before you need to do so. It's easy, but you'll gain a greater sense of security going through the process, understanding just how easy, and knowing that your files are available.

16. What is the "Heal" function and how
does it work?
The Heal function, available under the "My Whole PC" plan, lets you restore
to a "last known good configuration" in the event of a corrupted file or
problems after installing new software, configuring mail or other changes. If
you need to replace your hard drive, you can restore your files and use the
"Heal" function to restore your drivers and configuration settings as well (for
example, your ini file, printer drivers, and similar setting). However, the
"Heal" function cannot restore your configuration settings to a new and different
computer with a different operating system from the one used in the backup
(many of your settings would not be applicable or relevant).

17. How much does it cost to get my backup files on
CD?
You may request your backup on CD. The cost if $24.95
for the first 3 CDs and $20.00 per CD after that. However, the number of CDs can
be quite high, because EZBackup stores up to 9 version of your files, making the
cost in many cases prohibitive. You cannot ask for selective files from among
your backup files. If you feel you must have a CD copy, please contact
support@ezm.com to obtain an estimate of
the number of CDs and the cost.
18. How many versions of my files are
saved?
The most recent 10 versions of each file backed up are
stored for 90 days; files deleted from your computer are also retained for 90
days. Files you de-select from your backup set are retained for 30 days.
19. Can I access my backup files from my
office and my home?
Yes, you can recover a file remotely, while on the
road or at a different location and at a different computer. However, EZBackup is
not intended to serve as a file sharing service or a "virtual office."
